Operational efficiency, mobile working and business growth key drivers for digital dictation technology adoption at Johnston Carmichael

"Enterprise-wide implementation of digital dictation is a strategic decision at the firm to efficiently support future growth opportunities. We chose nFlow because we believe it is the best solution on the market for both users and the IT department."
8th December 2008

nFlow, a leading developer of digital dictation software solutions for the accountancy sector, today announces that Johnston Carmichael, ranked amongst the top 25 UK accountancy firms, is the latest firm to successfully deploy its market leading Digital Dictation System (DDS), nFlow DDS Version 5.0. Replacing its traditional tape-based dictation system, Johnston Carmichael chose nFlow for the solution’s ability to deliver increased operational efficiency, allow remote working and enhance staff productivity – all key factors contributing to business growth.

Implemented in just two weeks, nFlow DDS Version 5.0 is now available to 100 users across the firm’s five offices in Elgin, Inverurie, Huntly, Forfar and Perth. In addition, to facilitate remote dictation for users, Johnston Carmichael has also deployed the nFlow Mobile Suite for Blackberry, its mobile dictation solution.

This deployment at Johnston Carmichael closely follows, amongst others, implementations at PKF LLP, ranked amongst the UK’s top 10 accountants and business advisors; and Scott-Moncrieff, one of the leading Scotland-based firms. These implementations clearly demonstrate a fast growing trend of digital dictation technology adoption in the accountancy sector and illustrate nFlow’s further strengthened position as the market leader for enterprise-class DDS solutions in the sector.

Based on the success of this initial project, Johnston Carmichael is now rolling out the second phase of this deployment to include another 90 users across its office sites in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Fraserburgh.

Commenting on the project, Douglas Rintoul, IT Partner at Johnston Carmichael, said, “Enterprise-wide implementation of digital dictation technology is a strategic decision at the firm to efficiently support future growth opportunities. We chose nFlow because we believe it is the best solution on the market for both users and the IT department – interestingly, a sentiment also echoed by other leading firms in our sector. It’s comprehensive functionality and familiar Microsoft Outlook 2007 look and feel makes it very intuitive to use for users. For the IT department, the .NET service based design enables centralised administration and maintenance of the solution, particularly important for organisations such as our where we have multiple offices, delivering huge time savings and unbeatably low support overheads.

“The solution roll-out has been exceptionally smooth, which is purely down to nFlow’s technical expertise and customer-focussed approach. We are now looking forward to the next phase of the implementation.”

nFlow DDS Version 5.0 is a Microsoft .NET work-flow based digital dictation solution that includes USB dictation and transcription hardware and provides a familiar Microsoft Outlook interface for users.

Johnston Carmichael will experience significant productivity gains from implementing nFlow DDS Version 5.0. The greatly enhanced mobility and remote access offered by the solution means that fee earners will now be able to send their dictations to their office for typing from any physical location, resulting in faster turnaround times on deliverables to clients. Also, it will facilitate more efficient workload sharing amongst secretarial staff, irrespective of where they are physically located at any point in time. Further, the clarity of dictation recording delivered by nFlow Version 5.0 will considerably reduce the time spent by staff in creating and reworking transcribed documents. This move from analogue tapes to digital will also eliminate the costs previously incurred to purchase large volumes of tapes for dictation.

nFlow Sales & Marketing Director, Rob Lancashire, added, “Despite the current difficult economic climate, we are continuing to see a growing interest in our solution as accountancy firms focus on achieving increased enterprise-wide operational efficiencies to meet business targets. Version 5.0 easily integrates into firms’ IT infrastructure and delivers instant business gains, which makes it very attractive to firms.

“Today, digital dictation technology is fast establishing itself as an indispensable business productivity facilitator in the accountancy sector. The fact that Johnston Carmichael, yet another highly reputed UK accountancy firm, driven purely by business goals, has chosen to deploy this solution, speaks volumes of the benefits this technology can provide firms.”
